Drai­saitl, McDavid power Oil­ers to win

Leon Drai­saitl scored twice and Con­nor McDavid had a goal and three as­sists, lead­ing the Ed­mon­ton Oil­ers to a 7-2 vic­tory over the Min­nesota Wild on Fri­day night in Ed­mon­ton, Al­berta.

Ryan Nu­gent-Hop­kins, Zack Kas­sian, Alex Chi­as­son and Dar­nell Nurse also scored for the Oil­ers (15-122), who have won five of six. Drai­saitl also had an as­sist on Nurse’s goal in the third pe­riod.

Cam Tal­bot made 31 saves to earn back-to-back vic­to­ries af­ter drop­ping his six pre­vi­ous starts.

The Wild (15-12-2) lost for the fifth time in six games. Mar­cus Foligno and Nino Nieder­re­iter scored, and Alex Stalock made 22 stops in re­lief of an in­ef­fec­tive De­van Dub­nyk.

Ed­mon­ton got on the board on its sec­ond shot when McDavid fed Drai­saitl for his 14th goal of the sea­son 4:14 into the first.

The fifth-place Oil­ers have 32 points, one point be­hind the Sharks and Golden Knights, who are tied for third in the Pa­cific Divi­sion.

Wild cap­tain Mikko Koivu was un­able to play af­ter tak­ing a knee-onknee hit from Mark Gior­dano in their game Thurs­day against the Cal­gary Flames. Gior­dano was sus­pended for two games by NHL for the hit.

BLUES 1, JETS 0 >> Jake Allen made 26 saves and recorded his first shutout of the sea­son as vis­it­ing St. Louis de­feated Win­nipeg. Colton Parayko scored for the Blues dur­ing a sec­ond­pe­riod power play. The Jets man­aged just six shots on goal in the third pe­riod. Allen’s last shutout was a 3-0 vic­tory over Dal­las on Dec. 7, 2017. He’s 8-7-4 in 21 games this sea­son. HUR­RI­CANES 4, DUCKS 1 >> Brett Pesce scored the tiebreak­ing goal early in the third pe­riod, and vis­it­ing Carolina ended its three­game skid and the Ducks’ five-game win­ning streak. Justin Wil­liams also scored in the third pe­riod.
