9 top new under-the-radar destinations for 2019
What will be the hottest vacation spots for the new year? The list may surprise you. Membersonly boutique travel company Indagare scoured the globe, forecasting its favorites into a list of mustvisit emerging destinations.
Cambodia, which made Indagare’s list for its gorgeous temples, historic sites and new stylish retreats — including the exquisite, 10-villa Shinta Mani Angkor in Siem Reap — also appeared on TripAdvisor’s Top 25World Destinations in 2018. Indagare’s in-the-know experts included classic old favorites, like Los Cabos, decked out with new five-star properties, including Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort, and Montage Los Cabos, as well as undiscovered gems like Bogota, chosen for its enticing culinary scene. Looking for intimate wildlife experiences without the crowds? They suggest Rwanda over South Africa.
Ethiopia, which made the list, is also a top contender for wildlife adventure — and unparalleled cultural immersion. “This East African nation is emerging as a destination for travelers in search of a truly unspoiled place on the verge of a tourism discovery,” says Indagare trip designer Janine Yu. According to the website, the country is home to rock-hewn churches built into incredible landscapes, rare fourth- and fifth-century antiquities and tribal villages, whose residents have lived the same way for centuries. In the last two years, new lodges such as Limalimo Lodge and Lale’s Camp have opened.
