Susan McCarthy

February 21, 1949 - December 12, 2018 Resident of Cupertino

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan McCarthy announces her passing on December 12, 2018. Susan was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Joseph and Lillian Hoffman. She attended Belmont High School and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Susan moved to California to attend Santa Clara University where she obtained her law degree and met her husband, Joe. Susan worked as a lawyer for legal aide, then stayed home for several years to raise her children. She completed her career working in the City of San Jose’s attorney’s office, before retiring in 2012.

Susan was an avid reader, she loved movies, walks and time with her family. Her family will miss her keen sense of humor, her pragmatic advice, her warm smile and her kind heart.

Susan will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joseph and her children, Elizabeth (David) Clegg, and Michael McCarthy. Susan will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Clegg, by her brothers, Arthur (Ilana) Hoffman, Morten (Edith Goldman) Hoffman and by her brothers and sisters-inlaw, Deel McCarthy, Timothy (Cynthia Porter) McCarthy, Maureen (Patrick) Donohoe, Philip (Paula) McCarthy, Zoe Cordova McCarthy, whose husband Patrick preceded Susan in death, Rosemary (Eric Purviance) McCarthy, Mark McCarthy, Thomas (Maria Simeone-McCarthy) McCarthy, and Terence (Gina) McCarthy. Susan will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
