January 24, 1929 - January 4, 2019 Resident of Los Altos

Wilbur Clarke entered through the gates of heaven to join his wife on January 4th. They were married for 70 years. He was 89 years of age. Wilbur was very devoted to his Catholic faith and prayed the rosary daily. He passed away peacefully in his home with his family close by.

He was the father of 9 children and is preceded in death by his wife Betty, his daughters Mary and Sandra and his son Kenneth. His surviving children include Mike (Mary), Bob (Michael Grove), Elaine (Mark Twede), Don (Debi), Barbara (Don Chapin), Mark (Megan), and numerous grandchild­ren, great grand children and great – great grandchild­ren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews throughout the US, Canada and England.

Wilbur was born in Vancouver, British Columbia to Richard and Olive (Foley) Clarke. He grew up with his 9 siblings Elaine, Alvin, Dick, Alf, Len, Olive, Bill, Joe, and Ella. Wilbur married the love of his life Betty (Carnsew) in 1948. They moved to Santa Cruz where they had six children. In 1957 they moved to Campbell where they had three additional children. The family attended St. Lucy Catholic Parish and he became an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was involved in many charitable organizati­ons. In 1973 Wilbur and Betty relocated to Los Altos, California and became active member of St. Simon’s Catholic Church and the community. Wilbur and Betty loved traveling with friends and family to many exotic places. Wilbur loved to ski, play tennis, sail, and fly fishing. He was an active member of Los Altos Country Club and was elected President in the year 1979.

Wilbur was a very successful businessma­n in so many avenues. He was very proud of JC Paper Company which he establishe­d in 1956. Many national companies looked for his expertise in business. His warm personalit­y and joyful spirit gave him many life-long friends.

A vigil will be held at Spangler Mortuary, 399 San Antonio Road, Los Altos, CA on Tuesday January 15th at 5:30 pm followed by a rosary at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Simon’s Catholic Church, 1860 Grant Road, Los Altos, CA on Wednesday January 16th at 11:30 am. Immediatel­y following Mass there will be a burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos, CA.
