Chargers TE Henry hoping to play against New England

-

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is hopeful of playing less than eight months after suffering a knee injury, but it is likely to be a gametime decision.

Henry is listed as questionable on the injury report going into Sunday’s AFC divisional-round game at New England. He was a full participant in all three days of practice leading up to the game.

Henry said following Friday’s practice that he has the mindset that he will be active.

Henry, the team’s second-round pick in 2016, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while running a route during a non-contact drill on May 22, the first day of organized team activities. 49ERS PART WAYS WITH

TRAINER, DENY BRONCOS >> Longtime trainer Jeff Ferguson is the 49ers’ latest casualty in their New Year’s resolution to get healthier.

Ferguson became the 49ers head trainer in 2006 and was a holdover through five coaching changes during a 13-year tenure.

Injuries plagued coach Kyle Shanahan’s first two seasons, and partly because of that, the 49ers preceded Ferguson’s dismissal by firing head strength and conditioning coach Ray Wright last week.

Those departures, along with secondary coach Jeff Hafley’s exodus to Ohio State, are the only shakeups so far after the 49ers’ 4-12 season. The 49ers, according to ESPN, denied the Denver Broncos request Friday to interview quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello to become offensive coordinator under new coach Fangio, who was the 49ers defensive coordinator 2011-14.

The Broncos learned Gary Kubiak will not take the job as offensive coordinator for Fangio.

COORDINATOR >> Greg Roman has been named offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, coach John Harbaugh confirmed, according to report in the Baltimore Sun, marking the end of Marty Mornhinweg’s tenure on the staff as the team looks to build on quarterback Lamar Jackson’s rookie season.

Roman, 47, a former 49ers assistant under Jim Harbaugh, joined the Ravens in 2017 and was promoted to assistant head coach before this past season.

The Ravens took advantage of Jackson’s athleticism in ways that resembled Roman’s deployment of quarterback Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco. DOLPHINS ARE TURNING TO

THEIR AFC EAST RIVALS FOR NEW COACH >> New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores is a finalist in the Dolphins’ coaching search, a person familiar with the decision said, and they’re expected to offer him the job when his team’s postseason ends.

Flores has been a Patriots assistant for 11 seasons.

KICKER PARKEY TUNES OUT SOCIAL MEDIA >> Kicker Cody Parkey is staying off social medial after his missed field goal at the end of the Chicago Bears’ 16-15 wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Parkey told NBC’s “Today” show Friday he feels “worse than anybody about missing that kick.” He also says “football is what I do; it’s not who I am.”

Parkey thought he hit a “pretty good kick” and his 43-yard attempt would go in even as it hit the left upright and crossbar.
