UC’s efforts aid innovation, help inform consumers

-

Re: “UC is leading fight for open access to research” (Mercurynews.com, Dec. 30):

Open access to research marks a monumental step toward a more informed public and the UC system should be commended for its efforts to move toward bringing this ideal to fruition.

Especially here in the Silicon Valley, it’s in our DNA to innovate, always striving to improve the lives of the people.

In this age of impressive and exciting innovation with new technology ranging from cell towers to genetically modified foods, it’s easy to forget that no matter how good the intentions may be, with innovation comes both the potential for reward and the potential for unintended harm.

The UC system is opening doors for the public by offering access to scientific research, which will only benefit consumers by allowing them to make informed choices.
