Kayak’s top 10 hotels in the United States for 2019 (four are in California)

What do you look for in a great hotel? Should it be family-friendly or luxurious — or is it all about convenience?

Kayak, the travel website that generates 2million searches for travel information per year, has released its list of the best hotels in the United States for 2019. The list bears little resemblance to other top 10s so far this year, including U.S. News & World Report’s list, which is dominated by Southern California luxury hotels, or TripAdvisor’s top U.S. hotels, which features two Colorado and two South Carolina hotels.

Kayak picked its 99 winners based on user reviews and overall excellence, and there’s quite a bit of diversity in the top 10, from the luxurious Fairmont Olympic Seattle and Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando to the family-friendly Anaheim Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott in New Orleans. How’s that for balance? Four California hotels cracked the top 10, including two waterfront options in Monterey: The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa and the InterContinental The Clement. Clearly Kayak users love visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
