OAKLAND >> DeMarcus Cousins participated in a fullcontact scrimmage Friday as the Warriors star continues to progress from a torn quadriceps that has sidelined him through much of the playoffs.

Coach Steve Kerr could not recall the last time Cousins scrimmaged but liked what he saw from the center.

Stephen Curry agreed. “He looked good considering what he’s been through the last year and a half, having not been on the court for almost a month,” Curry said. “He’s making strides.”

Injured April 15 in the first round against the Clippers, Cousins is hopeful that he’ll be back for the NBA Finals that begin Thursday.

Cousins did not speak to reporters Friday but said a day earlier, “I’m in a lot better place.”

The Warriors also are hopeful that Andre Iguodala will be ready for the finals.

He did not practice Friday as he deals with soreness and tightness in his left calf, but the Warriors typically handle the veteran with care.

• The Undefeated reported that Al Attles, longtime Warriors icon and newly minted Hall of Famer, intends on attending an upcoming NBA Finals game at Oracle Arena.

“My goal was to get to at least one game and not be in a wheelchair,” the 82-yearold Attles told Spears on Monday. “A cane will work. I am looking forward to coming out. I am hoping that the team can raise another banner in Oakland.”

Attles was drafted by the then-Philadelphia Warriors in 1960. He played for the Warriors for 11 years, earning the nickname The Destroyer. He coached the team — he was only the second African-American coach in the league — for 14 seasons, leading it to an improbable NBA title in 1975. He has worked in the Warriors front office and has been a community ambassador.
