Neil Young sets new Bridge School benefit show
Neil Young has announced plans for a Bridge School benefit concert in September. But it’s not the one that Bay Area fans are hoping for.
It’s not a return of the old Bridge School Benefit — the one with a capital “B” in Benefit — that thrilled fans for some 30 years (mostly) at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain View. That series came to an conclusion following the 2016 shows and locals have had their fingers crossed ever since that it would return.
But it’s not happening — at least not yet.
This new fundraiser for the Bridge School — the Hillsborough facility founded by Young’s exwife Pegi Young that educates children with severe speech and physical impairments — is happening in Southern California, where Young, a former NorCal resident, now calls home.
It’s called the Harvest Moon concert and it takes place Sept. 14 at the Painted Turtle camp in Lake Hughes, about 65 miles north of Los Angeles.
“Audiences will take in performances by Father John Misty, Norah Jones, and Neil Young on a grassy hillside with unobstructed views of the performers, mountains, and a beautiful lake nestled near the Los Angeles National Forest. Included with each ticket is an all-star celebrity chef picnic cooked and served by Southern California’s top chefs, and a beer and wine tasting from select California Breweries and Wineries,” according to the show’s website.
Proceeds from the show will benefit the Bridge School as well as The Painted Turtle, which is described as “a non-profit providing children living with serious medical conditions a traditional camp experience free of charge.”
Tickets, at $250, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday; www.harvestmoongathering.com.
