See your way around

If your car doesn’t have a modern blind-spot warning system — available on most new vehicles — the Allview Mirror System (AMS) is a compelling substitute. The manufacturer states that the AMS is unlike an image-distorting convex mirror (the one with the phrase “Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear”). The flat, panoramic surface on the AMS increases your rearward field of vision without any distortion to a point where you’re able to observe multiple lanes of traffic without turning your head to check the outside mirrors. In turn, this allows you to more safely merge and change lanes. The AMS (replacement or clip-on versions) sells for $60. Get the full picture at www.allviewmirror.com.

A helpful deflection

Convertibles are mostly about fun in the sun, but not so much when your hair is constantly blowing in your face or you’re forced to wear a ball cap. Then there’s the windgust buffeting that forces you to shout at your driving partner and/or crank up the turn audio-system volume. One solution is to install a wind deflector, such as one from Love the Drive. The company makes them for a variety of current and older-model droptops, including the Ford Mustang from 1964, Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird from 1967, Chrysler Sebring/200 plus several import-based brands. Love the Drive deflectors install easily and can be left in place with the top up. Check the available list and order yours starting from $400 at www.lovethedrive.com.

Exits made easier

Some older drivers and their passengers, as well as anyone with mobility issues, can have a difficult time getting into and out of a vehicle. The Swivel Seat from My Belief Supply can make that easier. As the name implies, the product allows the person to back into the car seat, then rotate themselves into position without undue stress or strain. Just reverse the process for getting out of the vehicle. The product’s slim design means it won’t be uncomfortable to sit on for long periods. A set of two Swivel Seats sells for $60 from www.mybeliefsupply.com.

Kill grime the slick way

For a quick vehicle cleanup, grab a bottle of Slick Offroad Wash. The manufacturer, Paramount Extrusions Co., claims that its concentrated product will clean virtually anything. First, remove the really big mud clumps, then mix Slick with the water in the proper ratio. Spray it on (the company recommends its foam-spray attachment), let it soak in for about five minutes, then rinse with a concentrated water stream or a pressure washer (no scrubbing required). Slick is also biodegradable and contains no acids or phosphates, so it’s claimed to be kind to the environment. Order a 32-ounce bottle (which makes eight gallons) for $25 from www.slickproductsusa.com.
