Kumail Nanjiani’s secrets to muscular new body? Marvel personal trainers

Kumail Nanjiani shook up social media Monday by posting shirtless photos of himself, displaying the extraordinary body transformation he has undergone to star in the upcoming Marvel film “The Eternals.”

The 41-year-old “Silicon Valley” actor showed his huge biceps and ripped abs in the Instagram photos. In a lengthy caption, Nanjiani laughingly said, “I never thought I’d be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless, but I’ve worked way too hard for way too long so here we are. You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

But Nanjiani also revealed that getting into this kind of shape was time-consuming and costly — something he wouldn’t normally have done without the resources of Marvel Studios.

“I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ and decided I wanted to transform how I looked,” Nanjiani wrote.

“I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time.” In the HBO series “Silicon Valley” or in his romantic comedy “The Big Sick,” Nanjiani played men who had to rely on their wit and brains — not their ripped abs — to get attention.

For “The Eternals,” Nanjiani co-stars with Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harington and Salma Hayek — all of whom are world famous for playing roles that require them to be superhumanly glamorous and physical. “The Eternals” focuses on a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations.

In his caption, Nanjiani went on to thank personal trainer Grant Roberts who “made me understand true physical pain for months and months.” He also thanked celebrity trainer and nutritionist David Higgins, along with his team, for “making me strong, limber and injury free. I can almost touch my toes now.”

Nanjiani furthermore revealed that he had “delicious and healthy meals” delivered to him by a catering service, then thanked his wife and writing partner, Emily V. Gordon, for putting up with his constant complaints about working out and dieting. “I promise I’ll be interesting again some day. #thirstyshirtless.”
