Lazy8 Bakery was founded in the early days of the medical cannabis market. The landmark bill Proposition 215 was passed into law by California voters in 1996 but it was not until 2005 that the first dispensaries opened in Santa Cruz County and Lazy8 Bakery got its start. For the first time, medical cannabis patients could go to a shop and find an assortment of flower, hashish, topicals and edibles to treat their ailments. Patients no longer had to go to their friendly neighborhood dealer and choose between one or two kinds of flower and wonder where it came from. Dispensaries immediately began bringing in a wide selection of flower and building relationships with growers that have been cultivating cannabis in the Santa Cruz Mountains for decades.

While the variety was a revelation to most patients the choices for edibles back then were still somewhat limited. The pot brownie was king and the only version of a cannabis edible most people knew or thought about. There was a demand for more selection and choices that fit patients more specific needs, not to mention the need for something other than the same old brownie everyone was used to. Lazy8 Bakery happily met that demand and brought a bit of levity to the scene as well. Lazy8 Bakery's flagship cookie was the Pink Flying Saucer, a delicious lemon poppyseed confection topped with a pink vanilla glaze and a macadamia nut, sold in a pack of two with a colorful 1950's sci-fi movie poster themed label. More fun cookies soon followed. Galactic Pinwheels, a hazelnut swirl cookie with a chocolate-hazelnut filling. Nutty Buddies, a classic peanut butter sandwich cookie. Red Eyes, a double decker almond cookie with a raspberry filling and a lemon glaze. Lazy8 Bakery produced the first small bitesize cannabis cookies, the Vegan Ginger Drop, a spicy gingersnap studded with chunks of crystalized ginger and a vegan Chocolate Chip Drop, both sold in packs of 3, 12 and the much loved 30 pack tubs. The Lazy8 Bakery Caramels, plain and salted, quickly became a best seller. A vegan gluten free option followed with the Blueberry Hempseed Granola as well as the “Kind Classics” such as Oatmeal Raisin, Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter. And yes, after resisting for many years, Lazy8 Bakery eventually made a Brownie.

A true artisan producer, Lazy8 Bakery provided fresh, delicious, consistently potent cookies baked on a weekly basis for dispensaries in the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Area. The goal was to meet the needs of each shop and its patients, no matter if that meant several hundred cookies or just a dozen. All products were made with high quality all natural and organic ingredients and were incredibly potent by today's microdose standards. The larger cookies were all 120mg THC while the smaller cookies and caramels were 40mg each. Lazy8 Bakery worked with several trusted growers in the Santa Cruz Mountains who provided excellent organically grown cannabis for the full spectrum infused butter and oil used in all its products. The belief that patients deserved fresh quality choices for their medical needs was well met and Lazy8 Bakery has enjoyed a loyal following in Santa Cruz and Monterey for the past 14 years. Perhaps the most satisfying of all the services Lazy8 Bakery provided was the relief given to patients dealing with difficult medical needs. Over the years many people have told us how our products have helped with matters ranging from simpler issues like insomnia and pain relief, to dealing with some of life's most difficult challenges such as cancer treatment or the passing of a loved one. Lazy8 Bakery is humbled and grateful to have been such a positive part of so many people's lives and we look forward to many more years of meeting people's needs, whether they be for medical benefit or for recreation.

California voters let their voices be heard again in 2016 and passed Proposition 64, effectively putting an end to cannabis prohibition in the state for all adults. The regulations the State of California enacted for the ‘recreational' use of cannabis has brought many changes to the long-established medical cannabis market. While the regulatory change-up has caused many troubles for the small artisan producers and growers who built the industry, the future still looks promising. The end to cannabis prohibition in California is without a doubt a victory for cannabis users everywhere as California's booming economy will likely take the lead when interstate and international trade is expanded over time. Lazy8 Bakery promises to continue provide the same high quality products to this growing industry and hopes to bring a little fun to the scene as we always have!
