SUNNYVALE » A 67-yearold woman has died from injuries she sustained in a mobile home fire that also claimed the life of a 71-year-old man.

El Dorado mobile home park resident Darui White died Wednesday, the Santa Clara County coroner’s office confirmed, after spending two days in critical condition in a local hospital.

Just before 10 p.m. Monday, Sunnyvale fire personnel responded to heavy smoke and flames stemming from a home in El Dorado, in a community of mobile homes in the 600 block of East Weddell Drive.

Neighbors ran out of their homes and watched in horror as firefighters held back the blaze, recalled El Dorado resident Gail Rubino.

“The flames were really high. It was really sad,” Rubino said.

Within minutes, fire crews managed to contain the fire to the home itself and extinguish it. But a 71-year-old man inside the home was pronounced dead at the scene, while White was rushed to the hospital.

Her exact cause of death has not been determined, the coroner said. The 71-year-old’s name has not yet been released.

The origin of the fire is also under investigation, but there is no indication of any suspicious origin, authorities said.

A Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety spokesperson did not respond to several requests for an update on the investigation Friday.

Word of White’s death circulated quickly among neighbors in El Dorado, where a deadly fire hasn’t occurred in at least the last 10 years, Rubino said.

Neighbors plan to organize a meeting with fire department officials sometime in the coming weeks to discuss safety tips.
