A classic Porsche in “glass”
JPS Motorsports creates realisticlooking replicas of the 1957 Porsche Speedster (roadster) in standard and flared body styles, but the company also builds a version of an early 1955-’59 Porsche 356A coupe. The turn-key vehicle has a steelreinforced fiberglass body, new 2.1-liter air-cooled four-cylinder engine with dual carburetors, rebuilt four-speed manual transmission, front and rear disc brakes, retro-styled bucket seats and a wood-rim steering wheel. You can also specify extra-cost items such as air conditioning, leather interior, rear disc brakes, a bigger engine and fancier wheels. Prices start at $29,000 for the Speedster and $40,000 for the coupe. Check them out at www.jpsmotorsports.com.
Hot-rod fashion sense
Cyberoptix TieLab produces neckties and bowties that display a variety of interests, including automotive. For example, the gearshift motif lets everyone know you’re into manual transmissions. Other tie styles depict racetrack layouts, racing stripes, vintage auto brands and auto parts, etc. Prices vary depending on the product and material. The gearshift tie sells for $30 for the microfiber version, and up to $56 each for those made from fair-trade silk. You can also add a wood gift box for an additional $10. Check out all of the designs and order at www.cyberoptix.com.
Compact-car cleanup
Getting the dirt, dust and crumbs out of your vehicle is part of the whole car-care experience, but it can be a real pain when you try to use some unwieldy household canister vacuum to get the job done. An easier solution is to purchase a Black & Decker Flex Auto Vac. The unit’s extra-long power cord plugs into your car’s lighter socket (or similar 12-volt DC power-point connection). The flexible four-foot-long hose connects with a standard nozzle/brush attachment as well as a narrow crevice tool for reaching hard-to-get-at places. When not in use, the Flex Auto Vac’s storage bag keeps everything in its place. The unit sells for about $50 and can be purchased at www.amazon.com.
