MOUNTAIN VIEW >> Google has leased a big office building in Mountain View that is part of an under-construction mixed-use complex near the NASA Ames Research Center.

The search giant has leased a 222,000-squarefoot office building at 750 Moffett Blvd. in Mountain View, according to Santa Clara County property documents filed on Feb. 14.

Potentially, Google could employ 1,100 people in the office building, using commonly accepted ratios for employees and office space.

The building that Google has rented is part of an office and hotel development, called Ameswell, which is rising swiftly next to U.S. Highway 101 on the opposite side of the freeway from the long-time research center operated by the nation’s space and aeronautics agency.

“Features of this project include a LEED Platinum 5-story office building complete with roof deck and outdoor courtyard and a modern luxury hotel boasting a destination restaurant, 5,300 square feet of event space, a swimming pool, and beer garden,” according to a post on the Broadreach Capital web site.

Mountain View-based Google signed the lease on Jan. 21, the county documents show. Google spokesman Michael Appel confirmed the leasing transaction but didn’t want to elaborate on the situation.

Google also has obtained an option to purchase the building. Those financial terms weren’t disclosed.

A wide-ranging construction project involving the office building, the adjacent Ameswell Hotel, and the grounds on the site was underway on Thursday, an observation of the property showed.

Newark Knight Frank, a commercial real estate firm, helped to arrange the lease. The realty firm didn’t want to comment.

Palo Alto-based Broadreach Capital Partners is the developer of both the office building that Google leased and the nearby hotel.

The Ameswell name is meant to evoke the nearby NASA Ames Research Center, a launchpad for countless technology breakthroughs. A short distance away, on the Googleplex side of Highway 101, Broadreach has leased another brandnew building to Google, a big office structure at 1625 Plymouth Ave.

For both the Ameswell and Plymouth Avenue office buildings, Broadreach added terraces where Google workers can enjoy views of San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains, East Bay hills, Mount Diablo and even the towers of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. Also visible from both buildings is the mammoth Hangar One that Google is renovating in Mountain View.

The adjacent Ameswell Hotel will have 225 rooms. Broadreach hopes that the hotel and the office building will complement each other. Both the office building and the hotel are slated to be complete this year.

“This unique development will provide both a world-class work environment and unparalleled lodging and dining experience to businesses, travelers and local residents alike,” Broadreach stated on its web page. Broadreach executives couldn’t immediately be reached for comment regarding the transaction.
