Theodore’s OT goal lifts Vegas to win at Edmonton

Defenseman Shea Theodore scored 2:13 into overtime to lift the visiting Vegas Golden Knights to a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Jonathan Marchessau­lt forced a turnover in the offensive zone and alertly fed Theodore, who wired a shot from the high slot that beat Mikko Koskinen for his career-best 13th goal of the season and second in as many nights.

Theodore also netted the game-winning goal with 1:10 remaining in the third period of Vegas’ 5-3 victory at Calgary on Sunday.

Marchessau­lt and Nicolas Roy each scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury finished with 22 saves for first-place Vegas. The Golden Knights (39-24-8, 86 points) have won 11 of their past 13 games to build a three-point lead over the second-place Oilers (37-24-9, 83 points) in the Pacific Division.

Despite the loss, the Capitals earned a point to move ahead of idle Philadelph­ia atop the Metropolit­an Division.

JETS 4, COYOTES 2 >> Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and two assists to lead Winnipeg over visiting Arizona in a matchup with Western Conference playoff implicatio­ns. Cody Eakin broke a 2-all tie at 11:33 of the third period when he picked up the puck and backhanded a shot past Arizona’s Darcy Kuemper. The Jets moved into the top wild-card spot in the West with 78 points, four more than the Coyotes. PANTHERS 2, BLUES 1 >> Brett Connolly scored early in the third period and Chris Driedger stopped 26 shots, leading Florida to the win at St. Louis.
