The Winchester mystery continues (on video)

- — Randy McMullen, Staff

Like most museums, tourist attractions and public places that are as fun as the dickens to visit, San Jose’s beloved Winchester Mystery House is closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic. But that doesn’t mean you can’t visit the place or its famous ghosts. On the 100-year-old mansion’s website, you’ll find a fun and free video tour of the mansion, which was designed by Sarah Pardee Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune. Said to be obsessed and haunted by the those killed by Winchester weapons, the heiress designed an architectural oddity of a mansion, filled with doors and passageways that lead nowhere, bizarre stairways and fake bathrooms meant to fool the ghosts she was convinced were out to punish her. Details: The 41-minute tour/history video is available at winchestermysteryhouse. com/video-tour, and will be available until the house reopens.
