Striking Los Gatos In-town Gem

- By Monica Lander

Nestled among mature trees in a landscaped and wooded setting is this custom contemporary and private sanctuary built in 1977 and continuously remodeled and updated for the past six years. Unique for Los Gatos, the modern, Tahoe-style architecture harmoniously blends in its picturesque surroundings.

Three levels of light-filled living space and sun-drenched decks and terraces sit on a corner quarter-acre at 190 College Avenue within a halfmile to the charming downtown Los Gatos. An equally short distance to the highly acclaimed Testarossa Winery, the home is also nearby the Jones Creek Trail entrance and the Novitiate Park and portal to the 270acre St. Joseph’s Hill Preserve bordering the Lexington Reservoir and county park.

Designed by Los Gatos architect John Lien, the home showcases about 2,067 square feet with four bedrooms, and three stylishly remodeled bathrooms. The top floor is dedicated to the sumptuous master suite with French door access to its private terrace. This room also has a walk-in closet, built-in recessed cabinetry, and a bathroom with a dual-sink vanity, spa-inspired shower and a freestanding soaking tub.

Generous gathering spaces on the main level include the living and dining rooms with newly refinished hardwood floors. The dining room celebrates its natural setting with serene views from its large windows.

The sun splashed chef ’s eat-in kitchen, also on this level, has been updated with granite counters, all new stainless appliances including a gas range, French door refrigerator, fresh white cabinetry, and new LED recessed lights. Natural light pours in through garden view windows. Two additional bedrooms and a bathroom are also on this main level.

A fabulous state-of-the-art family room on the lower level includes a see-through gas fireplace that it shares with the outdoor Trex deck. This fully remodeled room also showcases a wet bar with a sink, a mosaic glass tile backsplash, and stainless refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher, and cabinets with custom lighting. Floor-to-ceiling picture windows and two sets of French doors open onto the expansive deck with level access to the street. A nearby bedroom and full bath are ideal for guests or in-laws. A temperature-controlled classy wine cellar, also on this level, has a capacity for about 400 bottles.

Heated stone floors, soaring ceilings, multiple skylights are a few more outstanding features. Walls of windows and clerestory frame the surrounding flowering gardens and mature trees, welcoming an abundance of natural light into the rooms with the French doors offering a seamless flow to the inviting outdoor spaces.

Additional features include a two-car garage with a new door, storage and epoxy floors; Andersen dual pane windows, a two-level outdoor stairway, a large storage closet under the indoor stair, utility and laundry rooms. The generous lot also offers potential room to expand and customize.

In addition to being close to the downtown, this home is also conveniently close to top-rated schools, including Louise Van Meter Elementary, Raymond Fisher Middle, and Los Gatos High School. Hop on Highway 17 or 9 for easy access into Silicon Valley or Santa Cruz and a less-than, 13-mile-drive to the San Jose International airport. Price: $2,275,000
