Police identify suspect in vandalisms

SAN JOSE » Authoritie­s on Monday identified a suspect in a recent vandalism spree targeting Asianowned businesses in the South Bay.

Five incidents were reported in San Jose between 3:15 and 6 a.m. on April 22. San Jose police said the suspect smashed the windows of Lee’s Sandwiches at 2525 South King Road and 2471 Berryessa Road, 7 Leaves Café at 1743 Berryessa Road, Tastea at 1610 North Capitol Avenue and Pho Y #1 Noodle House at 2050 Concourse Drive.

That same morning in Milpitas, the suspect also smashed the windows of three businesses on the 200 block of West Calaveras Boulevard, according to Milpitas police.

Burglary detectives identified Tai Van Trinh, 42, of Milpitas, as a suspect in the incidents, said San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia in a news release Monday afternoon. Garcia added that an initial investigat­ion found no evidence the incidents were hate crimes.

Trinh remains at large, Garcia said.

San Jose police on Monday also released additional informatio­n about the pickup truck Trinh was driving at the time of the incidents. The vehicle was described as a black 2004 Toyota Tacoma with an extended cab and Texas license plates (HZM3285).

Authoritie­s are asking anyone with informatio­n about the suspect’s whereabout­s to call 911, 311, or San Jose police Detective Ryan Wagner at 408277-4401. Those wishing to remain anonymous can leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408947-STOP (7867)) or at svcrimesto­ppers.org. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
