1905: First official soccer game between neighboring countries Belgium-Netherlands; The Dutch win, 4-1in Antwerp.
1939: Lou Gehrig played in his 2,130th consecutive and final game for the New York Yankees. Two days later he asked manager Joe McCarthy to be benched because of a slump and weakening body. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) later in the spring and died barely two years later at the age of 37.
1946: The Cleveland Indians’ Bob Feller pitched his second career nohitter; beating the Yankees, 1-0
1958: Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams becomes the 10th major league player to get 1,000extrabase hits
1961: Mickey Wright wins her fifth major title, the LPGA Titleholders Championship. Wright wins the tournament on the same day a year later, for major title No. 8of what would end up being 13in her career.

1987: New York Islanders star Mike Bossy plays his final game because of chronic back pain. Bossy, only 30 at the time, was an All-Star in each of his 10seasons in the NHL and scored at least 50goals nine times.
