Quarantine version of ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’

-

Like everyone else, Guy Fieri has had his normal routine greatly hampered by the coronavirus pandemic. With restaurants closed and social distancing in place, the spiky-haired Bay Area culinary star can’t hit the road to visit his favorite joints on his popular TV series “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”

No worries. Fieri is taking a detour with three special installments called “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives: Takeout” (9p.m. Fridays, Food Network).

In these so-called “quarantine” episodes, Fieri checks in with four past Triple D chefs from across the country via video chat to see how they are holding up, and how they have transformed their businesses to keep serving customers.

Each chef has sent a full list of ingredients of their featured recipes to Fieri’s Santa Rosa home and will guide him through the steps needed to make the dish, just like when he’s on the road and there in person. But now Fieri, the self-described mayor of Flavortown USA, will be virtually cooking along to prepare, plate and taste every dish.

“Triple D has always been about hittin’ the road and celebrating the hard workin’ folks of the restaurant business,” Fieri says. “And while the restaurants are partially closed and the Camaro is parked, ‘DDD: Takeout’ is here to show you how your favorite chefs are still cookin’ it up to keep people fed, support their communities, their families and their employees.”

The dishes include chicken tamales, paella fritters, European-style dumplings, chicken Parmesan and more. Fans can find more information at Foodnetwork. com/ddd.
