Haim boogies, COVID-style
Put Haim’s video for the new single “I Know Alone” in the time capsule. The video nicely sums up what it’s like to be alive during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has people embracing social distancing practices while still finding creative ways to connect with each other. The video’s feel is distinctly DIY, apparently shot with a single camera, in one long take, in somebody’s backyard. You can actually see a basketball hoop in the background as the three Haim sisters — Este, Danielle and Alana — slowly boogie along to the song in choreographed dance moves. And the kicker is that they are all properly spaced out, at least 6 feet apart from each other. The video was directed — remotely, we’re told — by Jake Schreier, who has also worked with Chance the Rapper, Kanye West and Selena Gomez. “‘I Know Alone’ was always going to be the next song we released, but it feels eerily appropriate given what’s going on in the world right now,” Haim says in a statement, “We hope this song keeps you company.” The song hails from the forthcoming album “Women in Music Pt. III,” which is now due out sooner than some expected. “Things were so crazy in the beginning when everything started happening that we didn’t think it felt appropriate to put out a new record,” the band continues. “Now that things have settled a bit in this quarantined life, we’ve talked about it more and think we could all use new music during this time so we’ve decided to move up the album to June 26.” Details: Streaming on multiple platforms.
