1977: Ricky Williams, Heisman Trophy winner in 1998, is born in San Diego. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
1977: Heavily favored Seattle Slew wins the Preakness by 1½ lengths over Iron Constitution, a 31-1 shot.
1979: Montreal Canadiens win the Stanley Cup for the fourth year in a row. (The Islanders win the next four.)
