Players get back to work at Chase

The Warriors opened their San Francisco practice facility to players Monday for individual workouts, a league source confirmed to Bay Area News Group.

At least five players showed to practice shooting, work in the weight room and undergo treatment while adhering to social-distance protocols at the facility for the first time in nearly three months, according to the source. The news was first reported by the Athletic.

Last week, Mayor London Breed announced that professional teams in San Francisco could begin practicing this week with the approval of public health officials. Those teams can host games without spectators beginning June 15, per the reopening guidelines.

However, the Warriors are unlikely to play again when the NBA resumes its season at Orlando, Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort — expected for late July. With a league-worst record of 15-50, the Warriors have already been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

But the team’s Chase Center facility can be of value to Warriors players who have been inactive since March 11, when the league suspended play after a player tested positive for the coronavirus. Many players have struggled to find ways to work out or get up shots while being sheltered-in-place for nearly there months.

If the season does resume in Orlando without the Warriors, players will still be able to use the facility to stay in shape ahead of next season.
