Officers shoot, kill man, injure woman
OAKLAND >> California Highway Patrol officers shot and killed the driver of a vehicle and wounded a passenger on Oakland’s east side late Saturday, authorities said.
Authorities said a male driver was killed and his female passenger wounded after they were shot about 10:46 p.m. in the 9600 block of Cherry Street, a primarily residential area.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Oakland police took the lead on investigating and said the CHP officers were conducting a criminal investigation when the shooting happened. Authorities did not release any details about the investigation.
Oakland police did not release any more information about the two adults shot, including their ages, where they were from or what their relationship was.
Police did not say how many CHP officers fired shots, how many rounds were fired or what prompted them to fire on the vehicle.
The Oakland Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the California Highway Patrol Critical Incident Investigations Team are conducting independent investigations.
