Car owners need to be more courteous when locking doors
QGary, how about something that is not about the virus?
I want to ask folks to refrain from using the key fob horn sound when locking their cars.
Many times I will be walking in a parking lot and suddenly a loud horn blasts right next to me.
My first reaction is that I am in someone’s way, or they are warning me of imminent danger. I turn to look and a driver is walking away, putting their keys in their pocket. Sheesh. We don’t need any more noise pollution.
It is really easy to disable the horn sound from the lock on the fob and still be able to lock your car. You can find instructions in your car manual or on the internet. — Christine Russell, Los Gatos
AYes, it is easy but I doubt many will disable the irritating horn blast. Your comments may spur some to at least think about it or look at the manual.
QI, too, was caught in the Caltrans-created hourlong traffic jam south of Los Gatos on Highway 17 recently for tree trimming. What’s the best site or app I can check for planned lane closures? — Patti Wolf, San Jose
AHere’s where to go:
• Highway 17 Shaded Fuel Break information: firesafe17.com
• Caltrans’ network of roadside traffic cameras: video.dot.ca.gov
• The statewide highway network for current conditions: quickmap.dot. ca.gov
• CHP’s real-time traffic incident information: cad. chp.ca.gov
QYour mention of a DMV “cheat sheet” triggered a failed search by my wife, overdue for a senior written test. We can find sample tests at dmv.ca.gov but no cheat sheet. Would you please send us a URL? We’d be forever grateful. — Gordon Slishman
AGo to dmv-writtentest.com. You have to pay $9.99 to $16.99 to get the cheat sheet.
QIwanttosaythank you so much for your response to the question about why police are “hanging out” near ReidHillview Airport. I don’t mind people asking what police are doing in different situations, but it would sure be nice if people didn’t first assume that they must be sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
Thank you so much for going the extra mile with this and including info as to the amount of tedious paperwork the police constantly need to write in a safe place. — S.E., San Jose
A Safer, indeed.
Q
Interstate 280 needs refreshing paint and dots. I like the white stripe, then the black stripe. How can we get new stripes everywhere? — Linda Sanders, Cupertino
ACaltrans now prefers the white-black look, and I-280 will get more later this year to improve visibility.
