Feds indict five with stealing 70 guns from gun store

SACRAMENTO >> A federal grand jury has indicted five Bay Area residents for their alleged roles in the burglary of a Vacaville gun store, authorities said.

Donte Marcel Anderson, 31, of Antioch; Desteny Salazar, 22, of San Francisco; Donley Thompson, 27, of Pinole, Tracy Whitfield, 31, of

Pittsburg; and Adrian Duran, 23, of San Francisco, all were charged with possession of a stolen firearm and burglary of a federally licensed firearms dealer, U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott of the Eastern District of California announced.

All five of those who were indicted face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The indictment alleges that authorities seized 13 pistols from the defendants, all connected to the burglary. Authorities say, though, that there are at least three more suspects in the June 1 burglary. The store reported 70 firearms were stolen.

According to the complaint, video surveillance cameras caught burglars breaking the window of the front door. One of them then began using, “a metal-cutting tool to saw through the metal gate.”

“At this point, at least eight different individuals entered into the store while the person with the metal cutting tool appeared to remain outside,” ATF Special Agent Jerry Donn wrote in an affidavit attached to the complaint.” “The individuals proceeded directly to the second floor where the firearms were located. They smashed a glass display case and took pistols.”

The five were passengers in rented minivan that tried to race away from police on Interstate 80 at speeds over 100 mph along with three other vehicles on June 1, authorities said. After the minivan stopped, the five tried to run away before they were captured, authorities said.

It all happened after reports of suspicious activity at Guns, Fishing and Other Stuff, a two-story gun and outdoor recreational vehicle store that authorities said is a federally licensed guns dealer. The vehicles raced away from the store when police arrived, authorities said.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities found bolt cutters, a power saw and the 13 handguns with price tags from the store still attached.
