Seeing the world with new eyes

Dr. Michael Furlong is excited and grateful to be open for business and providing vision correction services in the Bay Area. Furlong Vision Correction closed their doors on March 17 in compliance with the Santa Clara County Shelter in Place (SIP) directive for nonurgent medical services that was in effect until April 17 at that time and then extended to May 4. “It was a difficult situation not only for me and my staff, but also for patients who were scheduled for a consultation, surgery or post-operative appointments,” said Dr. Furlong. “But there was some good news, too. My neighbor, Heidi Stone, is the Admissions Marketing Director for Covenant Care and she inspired me to respond to the shortage and donate hundreds of surgical masks to the seven Bay Area Acute Rehabilitation Centers. We had also started remodeling our clinic and we took advantage of the closure to complete that effort.” On a personal note, Dr. Furlong said that not being able to watch our local sports teams is a big void for his family — his three boys are avid sports fans and Furlong Vision Correction has been a legacy sponsor of the San Jose Earthquakes since 2002. During the SIP order, the Furlong family has been competing in video game tournaments, setting up movie nights and trying out new recipes. Dr. Furlong and his associate surgeon, Dr. Mona Sane are boardcertified ophthalmologists and they love giving their patients amazing vision.

After having LASIK himself, Dr. Furlong was inspired to open his own practice in 1998. Furlong Vision Correction provides all refractive vision correction procedures and Laser-assisted Cataract surgery and they also employ the most advanced, Fda-approved technology available. “We love hearing from our patients and it is inspiring to hear their stories after they have a vision correction procedure with us. So many have commented about how our staff engages with them and I know that is important and comforting,” said Dr. Furlong. “And during this unprecedented time, we have completely adjusted our patient process to meet the CDC and Santa Clara County directives. All staff and patients are required to wear masks and each patient is asked to call us when they arrive at the clinic. The patient is given a temperature check in the lobby before entering the clinic and then greeted and escorted by a technician as soon as they check in. All exam and testing room surfaces are thoroughly sanitized before and after each patient exam.” Furlong Vision Correction has been voted the Best Place for LASIK in Silicon Valley by Mercury News readers for 14 years and Dr. Furlong has been voted the Best Vision Correction Surgeon since we started that award four years ago. LASIK is unarguably the safest elective surgical procedure that is available today. More than 20 million LASIK procedures have been performed in the United States with extraordinary patient satisfaction results that exceeds 98%. (according to the Laser Eye Institute — February, 2020).
