Damarious Randall, signed last spring by the Raiders as a potential starter at free safety, was released Friday.

Randall, who reportedly received a $1.5 million guarantee when he signed in April, is the second freeagent acquisition to be cut this week by the Raiders. Cornerback Prince Amukamara was released Monday.

Randall, 28, the 30th player taken in the 2015 draft, struggled at cornerback last season with Cleveland. But Raiders GM Mike Mayock, having preferred Randall as a safety coming out of college, liked the idea of him playing a center field role for the Raiders in 2020.

With Randall’s departure, the Raiders head into today’s cutdown with just three safeties — Johnathan Abram, Erik Harris and Jeff Heath. However, they have options with Dallin Leavitt and Lamarcus Joyner. Leavitt has played mostly special teams. Joyner is a slot corner with experience as a deep safety, although the Raiders have shown no inclination to move him from the nickel position.

• Right tackle Trent

Brown ended last season on injured reserve and hasn’t been a full participant in practices, but the assumption remains that he’ll be ready in eight days for Week 1.

Here’s how offensive coordinator Greg Olson characterized Brown’s absence in a Zoom conference all with reporters:

“It’s never an ideal situation, but it does help that he was here a year ago and so a lot of the communication he’s very well aware of,” Olson said. “We’re just bringing him along, and when he’s ready to go full-time we’ll bring him along full time.”

The Raiders have had little to say regarding injuries throughout camp. The picture becomes more clear next week as teams are required to list practice participation (full, limited, did not practice) and also specify injuries.

• Quarterback Nathan Peterman agreed to a $1 million contract for 2020 according to ESPN after being retained with a restricted free agent tender worth $2.13 million which was not guaranteed.
