Police ID man held in California in shooting on Las Vegas Strip
LAS VEGAS >> Authorities have released the name of a 19-year- old man arrested in California as the suspect in a late Sunday shooting that critically injured one person and led to a lockdown of a Las Vegas Strip casino- hotel for several hours.
Christian Miller was arrested before dawn Monday in a vehicle on Interstate 15 about 95 miles southwest of Las Vegas, based on a vehicle description police developed following the 11 p.m. shooting on a sidewalk near the Flamingo resort, Las Vegas police Officer Aden Ocampo-Gomez said.
A person hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the torso was reported to be in stable but critical condition, Ocampo- Gomez said. The person’s name wasn’t made public.
Miller’s hometown was not immediately known. He was being held at a San Bernardino County jail pending his transfer in custody to Las Vegas.
The California Highway Patrol said Miller was a passenger in a vehicle driven by David Preston, 19, who also was arrested and held pending his extradition to Las Vegas. Flamingo guest Andrew Schilinski told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the casino was locked down and people were prevented from using elevators and stairs while police investigated whether a suspect fled into the hotel.
Las Vegas police last week reported an increase in violent crime since August on and around the tourist resort corridor.
Clark County Sherif f Joe Lombardo blamed the surge on out- of-town visitors who he said can’t go to nightclubs and entertainment venues that remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
