ENGLAND: San Jose’s Brajevich family — Mike, Kris and their kids Sydney, Jake and Dylan — visited Stonehenge, pictured, on a winter break trip that included England, Germany and the Netherlands. “So happy that we were able to make this trip before the boys went off to college and before the pandemic!” Kris says. “We stopped in Shakespeare’s hometown, Stratford-upon-avon. We had a nice tour of the school Shakespeare attended as a boy and enjoyed hearing stories of his young life. We had mulled wine and crumpets.”

TRAVEL TIPS: If you eventually go, view that tour bus as a plus. “We took the full day tour (of Stonehenge) and it was a welcomed rest after flying in two days before. We were able to rest and catch up on emails while on the comfortable bus.”

ITALY: Palo Alto residents Vincent and Mary Beth Lefebvre visited Florence last fall to see the sights, including the Duomo, pictured. “Filippo Brunelleschi designed the most significant architectural achievement of the entire Renaissance,” Mary Beth says, “the dome over the Florence Cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore.” TRAVEL TIP: If you eventually go, Mary Beth says, “as with many popular tourist sights in pre-pandemic Italy, the best strategy is to get up early and be at your destination, museum or cathedral right before or as soon as they open. Check websites on opening hours and admission costs.”
