Yelinek grew up in Massachusetts. As a teen, he worked for a veterinarian, who encouraged him to pursue a veterinary career.

At an Ohio State orientation, one counselor told him he’d never get into the university, and another told his mother to take him home. He proved them wrong. He was not only accepted, he graduated from Ohio State and earned his veterinary degree there.

He is certified in animal acupuncture and animal chiropractic therapy. He also practices traditional Chinese medicine and therapeutic laser therapy. 4
Four years ago, during a trip to the Caribbean, he contracted malaria.
