The Warriors may be missing Klay Thompson for a second straight season if their fears are confirmed today.

Thompson is feared to have torn his Achilles tendon in his right leg, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes. He’s set to have an MRI this morning to assess the injury.

Golden State confirmed Thompson was injured with a statement on Twitter.

“Warriors guard Klay Thompson suffered a leg injury today

during a workout in Southern California. No other details are available at this time. We will provide further updates as appropriate.”

Thompson was reportedly playing in a pickup game with other NBA players when he suffered the injury. ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne said he landed on the right leg and felt pain in his calf. She reported that several members of the Warriors organization are heading to the Los Angeles area to be with Thompson tomorrow for his MRI.

Warriors teammates and other superstars such as LeBron James immediately rallied around Thompson via Twitter.

“Praying a lot @KlayThompson is cool!! Like it’s super minor,” James wrote.

“Prayers up for my brother,” Draymond Green wrote.

Thompson, 30, was set to return from a torn left ACL he suffered in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals that sidelined him for the entirety of last season.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, there is concern that Thompson’s injury is to his heel area. Warriors fans are familiar with one of the worst- case scenarios in the instance of a heel injury after Kevin Durant tore his Achilles’ tendon during the 2019 NBA Finals.

A participant in the Warriors’ recent offseason minicamp at Chase Center, Thompson was on track to be ready for the start of the training camp Dec. 1 prior to suffering this injury just under two weeks away from that start date.

SAN FRANCISCO REJECTS PLAN TO BRING FANS INTO CHASE CENTER >> The Warriors’ ambitious coronavirus testing plan aimed at bringing fans into Chase Center for the upcoming season has been swatted down by San Francisco health officials.

Golden State had submitted a plan to use rapid PCR tests to allow fans into home games at half capacity for the season slated to start Dec. 22.

But as coronavirus cases continue to spike in the Bay Area as well as nationwide, the city rejected the Warriors’ plan in a letter from city health officer Tomás Aragón.

The city may be open to working with the team on a plan to allow fans at 25 percent capacity, Aragón’s letter said, after the city reaches the state’s yellow tier of reopening — which would require an unadjusted case rate of less than 1.0 daily new cases per 100,000 and a test positivity rate less than 2 percent. The city is currently in the red tier, two steps away from yellow, while much of the rest of the state moved into the purple tier this week.
