No. 11 Oregon hangs on to defeat upset-minded UCLA

Tyler Shough threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns and No. 11 Oregon held off short-handed UCLA 38- 35 on Saturday in Eugene to remain undefeated.

At 3- 0, the Ducks solidified their spot atop the Pac12 North.

Devon Williams had six catches for 123 yards, including a 19-yarder for a TD.

UCL A ( 1- 2) had several players out because of COVID-19 protocols and contact tracing, including starting quarterbac­k Dorian Thompson- Robinson. Redshirt freshman Chase Griffin started.

Griffin threw for 195 yards and a touchdown, with two intercepti­ons. Demetric Felton rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including an 11-yard scoring run that got the Bruins within three with 3:43 left.

Oregon’s ensuing drive failed and UCLA got the ball back with 1:24 left. But Oregon stopped the Bruins on fourth-and-12 to end it. NO. 4 CLEMSON AT FLORIDA STATE POSTPONED >> The game between the Tigers and Seminoles was postponed hours before kickoff after a Clemson player reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, following days of practice with his teammates.

The teams held a conference call with the Atlantic Coast Conference where Florida State officials said they were uncomforta­ble going forward with the game, according to ESPN.

Clemson had made the trip to Tallahasse­e intent on playing. It was set to mark the return of quarterbac­k Trevor Lawrence, who missed games against Boston College and Notre Dame after testing positive for the coronaviru­s.

NO. 3 OHIO STATE 42, NO. 9 INDIANA 23 >> Master Teague ran for a career-high 169 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Fields accounted for three scores and the Buckeyes held off a comeback bid by the Hoosiers.

Indiana (4-1, 4-1 Big Ten) rallied from a four-touchdown deficit in the second half and made it a onescore game with 10:26 left, when Michael Penix Jr. and Ty Fryfogle connected on a 56-yard touchdown.

Penix was 27 for 51 for 491 yards and five TDS.

Ohio State (4- 0, 4- 0) put up 607 yards and led 35-7 early in the second half, but struggled to contain Penix and Fryfogle, who caught seven passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns.

Fields was 18 for 30 for 300 yards and two touchdown passes, but he also threw his first three intercepti­ons of the season and was sacked five times.

NO. 1 ALABAMA 63, KENTUCKY 3 >> Devonta Smith caught nine passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns as the Crimson Tide rolled.

Mac Jones passed for 230 yards and two touchdowns and Najee Harris ran for a pair of scores for Alabama (7- 0 SEC).

NO. 6 FLORIDA 38, VANDERBILT 17 >> Kyle Trask passed for 383 yards and three touchdowns, and the Gators rallied from an early deficit for the road win.

Florida (6-1, 6-1 SEC) pulled into Vanderbilt Stadium an hour before kickoff already in uniform, hoping to avoid the visitors locker room as a coronaviru­s precaution.

The Commodores (0-7, 0-7) opened the game by driving for a touchdown, but Trask helped get Florida on track for its seventh straight win in the series. NO. 7 CINCINNATI 36, UCF 33 >> Desmond Ridder three two touchdown passes and ran for two scores as the Bearcats (8- 0, 6- 0 American) rallied from a 14-3 deficit.

Tyler Allgeier ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns and the Cougars routed the overmatche­d Lions (0- 4) to improve to 9- 0.

Allgeier had his fourth 100-yard game of the season. Zach Wilson threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns before halftime and added 33 yards rushing.

NO. 10 WISCONSIN-NO. 19 NEBRASKA >> Peyton Ramsey threw two touchdown passes and the host Wildcats shut down Graham Mertz and the Badgers to take control of the Big Ten West.

Northweste­rn (5-0) forced five turnovers — four in the first half — and sacked Mertz three times.

NO. 15 COASTAL CAROLINA 34, APPALACHIA­N STATE 23 >> Reese White scored the goahead TD on a 3-yard run with 2:24 to play for the unbeaten Chants (8- 0, 6- 0 Sun Belt Conference).
