STANFORD AT WASHINGTON

- — Harold Gutmann

Records: Stanford 1-2, Washington 3-0

Kickoff: Today, 1 p.m., at Husky Stadium, Seattle

Television: FOX

Radio: KNBR/KTCT (1050 AM)

Series history: The series is deadlocked 43-43-4. Stanford defeated then-No. 15Washington 23-13 last season, but hasn’t won in Seattle since 2014.

Storylines: Stanford has been in Seattle since Tuesday, the day after Santa Clara County’s restrictions went into effect to ban football practices and games due to surging COVID-19 case and hospitalization rates. The Cardinal practiced at Washington’s indoor facility on Tuesday and at area high schools the remainder of the week. They will head straight to Corvallis, Ore., next week before facing Oregon State. … Washington, the only undefeated team in the Pac-12 North, debuted at No. 22 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings after home wins against Oregon State, Arizona and Utah. … Both teams are coming off last-minute wins. Stanford won the Big Game 24-23 in Berkeley when Thomas Booker blocked an extra point with 54 seconds left. Washington overcame a 21-0 halftime deficit against Utah to win 24-21 on a 16yard TD pass with 36 seconds remaining. … Washington has played all of its games at Husky Stadium after scheduled road games at Cal and Washington State were canceled. Stanford will play just once at Stanford Stadium this season.

Roster updates: Starting CB Ethan Bonner (injury) and reserve FB Jay Symonds (opted out) did not make the trip to Seattle. The rest of Stanford’s two-deep should be available barring any last-minute coronavirus issues.

Matchup to watch: Stanford passing game vs. Washington secondary. Led by first-team allconference CB Elijah Molden, the Huskies are allowing an average of 162.7 passing yards per game, the third-lowest mark in the country. But the receiving corps is Stanford’s best position group, and QB Davis Mills had success last season – he was 21 of 30 for 293 yards and a TD in Stanford’s upset win.

Stats that matter: Huskies OLB Zion Tupuola-Fetui leads the nation in sacks (2.33 per game) and is No. 2 in the FBS in forced fumbles (1.0 per game). … Meanwhile, Washington’s offense has allowed just one sack, and that was a 1-yard loss on a QB run. … Stanford sophomore RB Austin Jones has scored in every game and has five total rushing TDs. … Last week at Cal, Stanford blocked two kicks in a game for the first time since 2013. … Cardinal coach David Shaw is 26-20 against AP Top 25 teams.
