Stanford beats Arizona for first time since 2009

Oscar da Silva scored 21 points and Stanford beat Arizona 78-75 on Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena to snap a 20game losing streak against the Wildcats.

The Cardinal (4-2, 1- 0 Pac-12) beat Arizona for the first time since Jan. 4, 2009, snapping the nation’s fourthlong­est active losing streak against a conference foe.

Jemarl Baker Jr. sandwiched a pair of 3-pointers around a layup by Ira Lee in an 8- 0 spurt that gave Arizona its first lead of the game at 69- 68 with 3:33 to play. After Da Silva answered with two free throws, Baker hit another 3. But Spencer Jones made two 3-pointers 37 seconds apart to make it 76-72 with 2:03 left and Stanford led the rest of the way.

Baker hit a career-high eight 3-pointers and finished with 29 points for Arizona (5-1, 0-1).

CAL 87, CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE 56>> Makale Foreman scored 23 points — 11 in a 90- second span in the first half — Ryan Betley scored 19 and the Golden Bears (4- 4) beat the Matadors (3- 3) in Berkeley. Joel Brown made all five of his shot attempts for 10 points and distribute­d eight assists for the Bears. Cal is 8- 0 all-time against CSUN.

ST. MARY’S 53, COLORADO STATE 33>> Tommy Kuhse had 14 points as Saint Mary’s (8-1) romping past the Rams (2-1) in Moraga. NO. 1 GONAZA 99, NO. 3 IOWA 88>> Jalen Suggs scored 18 of his career- high 27 points in the first half and the Bulldogs (4- 0) held off a late rally to beat the Hawkeyes (6-1) in Sioux Falls, S.D. This was the Bulldogs’ first game since pausing activities in early December because of the coronaviru­s.

NO. 12 WISCONSIN 85, NO. 23 LOUISVILLE 48>> Micah Potter scored 20 points and Aleem Ford added 12 to lead Wisconsin (6-1) over short handed Louisville (4 - 1) in Madison, Wis. The Cardinals, playing their first game since Dec. 1 after team activities were suspended due to corona virus issues within the program, were without leading scorer Carlik Jones.

NO. 2 BAYLOR 100, KANSAS STATE 69>> Macio Teague had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Davion Mitchell scored 20 points and the Bears (5- 0, 1- 0 Big 12) beat the Wildcats (3- 5, 1-1) in Manhattan, Kan.

NO. 20 OHIO STATE 77, UCLA 70>> Duane Washington Jr. hit two free throws in the final minute and finished with 14 points, helping Ohio State (6-1) hold off UCLA (5-2) in Cleveland.

NO. 22 NORTH CAROLINA 75, KENTUCKY 63>> Armando Bacot scored 11 of his teamhigh 14 points in the second half, rallying the Tar Heeels (5-2) from a double- digit deficit to beat the Wildcats (1-5) in Cleveland. Kentucky has lost five in a row for the first time since John Calipari became coach in 2009. Kerwin Walton scored 13 points for the Tar Heels.

OREGON 80, PORTLAND 41>> Chris Duarte scored 21 points, LJ Figueroa added 15 and the host Ducks walloped the Pilots.

NOTE>> Pittsburgh coach Jeff Capel tested positive for COVID-19. The school said he will be unavailabl­e when the Panthers (5-1) play Louisville on Tuesday.

Women

NO. 11 UCLA 71, CAL 37>> Michaela Onyenwere and Natalie Chou scored 18 points apiece and the Bruins (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12) cruised past the Golden Bears (0- 6, 0-3) at Pauley Pavilion.
