-

Carol Tooker Stewart, age 70, passed into peace in the early morning of December 13, 2020 from complications of early onset dementia. Carol was a loving and loyal wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. A beautiful and spirited woman with a quick wit, sharp intellect and distinctive sense of style, Carol was loved and admired by many.

Carol was born in Champagne, Illinois, daughter to Edwin and Pauline (Beal) Tooker, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Stewart and five beloved Golden Retrievers. Carol and Bob lived in San Francisco for over 40 years enjoying the many pleasures of their North Beach neighborhood and their beautiful city.

Carol graduated from Gunn High School in Palo Alto in 1968, and attended U.C. Berkeley and art school in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Carol combined fashion and art by designing hand painted silk garments and was recognized in 1982 as one of I Magnin’s five “Young Designers of the Year.” Ultimately, Carol turned her focus to business and spent the bulk of her career as a paralegal for Steinhart & Falconer/ DLA Piper.

Carol is survived by sisters Jeanie Tooker (husband Ted) Stephens of Palo Alto, Christine Tooker (husband Roger) Thomas of West Linn, Oregon; nephews Matthew Wilson Stephens of San Francisco, Brian Keith (wife Dianne) Stephens of Redwood City; nieces, Megan Elizabeth Thomas of Coos Bay, Oregon, Jacqueline Marie Thomas of New York City, and Brenda Kay Stephens (husband Scot) Smithee of Hollister.

Her family greatly appreciates the compassionate and caring support Carol received from her friends and caregivers Gemma and Christine, who were with her to the end.

No service is planned at this time. Memorials on behalf of Carol may be given to the Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary ( www.homewardboundgoldens.org) or NORCAL Golden Retriever Rescue (www. ngrr.org) or another charity of your choice.
