Saleh reportedly a finalist for Jets job; Eagles show interest

On the same day Robert Saleh became the first known finalist for the New York Jets head coaching job, the Eagles joined the growing list of teams interested in the 49ers defensive coordinato­r.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that Philadelph­ia has formally requested an interview with Saleh as the Eagles beg in their search for a replacemen­t for Doug Pederson, whom they fired Monday after five seasons and a Super Bowl title.

The Eagles join a list of five other teams who have shown interest in Saleh. The list includes the Lions, Jaguars, Chargers and Falcons.

Meanwhile, Saleh will be flying to New York to meet with the Jets brass Tuesday, a ccording to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo. The 41- year- old Saleh is the first in line for second interviews in New York to take over for Adam Gase.

Saleh began his tour of NFL coaching interviews last week when he met with the Falcons a week ago Monday. The Dearborn, Mich., native interviewe­d with his hometown Lions last Thursday.

The Lions were thought to be the most likely team to pr y him away f rom the 49ers, but there have been no subsequent reports on the direction Detroit will take.

LYNCH A FINALIST FOR SALUTE TO SERVICE HONOR >> 49ers general manager John Lynch, New England Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona, and Atlanta Falcons executive Steve Cannon are finalists for the NFL Salute to Service Award.

Now in its 10th year, the award recognizes exceptiona­l efforts to honor and support members of the military community. It will be presented Feb. 6, the night before the Super Bowl, at NFL Honors, when The Associated Press announces its individual NFL awards.

Lynch, a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the eighth time, has visited various Air Force bases and military hospitals for the past two decades to thank those serving in the military. Since 2011, he has hosted military families at an annual Christmas party. In 2018 and 2019, Lynch welcomed more than 250 active duty troops and veterans for a VIP training camp practice experience.
