Too many would squelch opposing views
I see many letters to the editor wanting the Mercury News to ban or “cancel” certain conservative opinion writers, such as Victor Davis Hanson, Marc Thiessen and even the comic “Mallard Fillmore.”
I guess their idea is that if they don’t like the viewpoint, then no one should be allowed to read it.
Seems similar to the ideas of Twitter, Google, Facebook and others to ban all communication from people they just don’t like.
I like all free speech, and censorship is bad for our country, exceptions being only the “yell fire in a theater” law.
Soon those letter writers and others will be holding book burnings and taking Abraham Lincoln’s name off even more schools.
America is great because we have free speech and can thus see all points of view.
I’m glad the Mercury News understands this.
