Sylvia Fisher Moore, a native of Dyer, Tennessee, died December 26 after an illness with Merkel Cell Cancer. Born on July 2, 1938 to Dulcenia Hogue and Johnny William Fisher, raised on a farm with three sisters and a brother, she attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she met her beloved Billy Joe Moore. She held a B.A. in Home Economics and was inducted into Omicron Nu (Economics) and Phi Lamda Theta (Education). She and Bill moved their family to California in 1969 where she worked as a professor at San Jose State University teaching Early Childhood Education and Home Economics. Graduating from the California School of Profession­al Psychology in Berkeley, CA with a Ph.D., she opened a private practice in Los Gatos, retiring to care for her first grandchild. She was a member of the University of Tennessee President’s Council, College of Engineerin­g Dean’s Circle, and Chair of the Developmen­t Council. An avid quilter, she was a founding member of the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Associatio­n and the American Museum of Quilts & Related Arts. Sylvia served as President of the SCVQA twice, was a master hand quilter, teacher, and speaker. She thoroughly enjoyed nurturing family, gardening and trap shooting with Bill as they travelled with friends for the sport. Sylvia was preceded by her husband Bill and is survived by daughters Melany and Deborah, son-in-law Mick Dudas, grandchild­ren Daniel, Melissa, Misty, Serena and Monet.
