Bruins beat Penguins on late overtime goal

Craig Smith scored with 11 seconds left in overtime, and the Boston Bruins recovered after blowing a two-goal lead to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Brad Marchand had a short-handed goal and assisted on Nick Ritchie’s goal to help the host Bruins earn their third straight victory. Tuukka Rask stopped 28 shots.

CAPITALS 3, ISLANDERS 2 >> Justin Schultz scored the go-ahead goal with 26.4 seconds left, Vitek Vanecek made 32 saves and Washington beat New York despite another injury to a key player.

Schultz’s goal allowed the host Capitals to narrowly avoid a fifth consecutiv­e overtime game, which has never happened in franchise history.

PANTHERS 4, BLUE JACKETS 3>> Patric Hornqvist scored the tying goal with 3 seconds left in regulation and had the game winner in a shootout as Florida won at Columbus.

Hornqvist beat Joonas Korpisalo in the fifth round of the shootout to end it.

SABRES 3, RANGERS 2 >> Buffalo captain Jack Eichel’s first goal of the season gave him some relief and provided a lift for the Sabres at home.

Eichel, Dylan Cozens and Tobias Rieder scored for Buffalo, which rallied to beat New York.

FLYERS 5, DEVILS 3 >> Nolan Patrick scored the tiebreakin­g goal a little more than seven minutes into the third period for visiting Philadelph­ia, which went on to beat New Jersey.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS WITHOUT COACHING STAFF >> The Vegas Golden Knights were without their coaching staff for Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues because of COVID-19 concerns. Instead, Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon handled the bench coaching duties.

The franchise said the coaching staff, which includes head coach Peter DeBoer, will self-quarantine “out of an abundance of caution.”

LEAFS’ CAMPBELL OUT ‘WEEKS’ WITH LEG INJURY >> Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jack Campbell is expected to be sidelined for “weeks” with a leg injury, coach Sheldon Keefe announced. Campbell, 29, sustained the injury during Toronto’s 3-2 win over Calgary on Sunday. He was able to finish the game, improving to 2-0-0 with a 2.00 goalsagain­st average and .923 save percentage.
