Filbert Joseph Velasquez Sr. 90, passed away peacefully January 15, 2021 in Alpine County, CA.

He was born March 24, 1930, in Trinidad, CO to John and Lucy Velasquez. Raised in Trinidad, CO until he moved with his family to Sunnyvale, CA where he graduated from Fremont High School. He joined the US Air Force in 1949 during the Korean War, and was stationed in Okinawa Japan and Roswell, NM. He married Josephine Cuneo Velasquez on Oct 19, 1953. He and his wife bought a home in Santa Clara, lived there and raised their family until retiring to Alpine County.

Filbert enjoyed fishing the Carson river near his home, and frying up his catch of rainbow trout to share with family and friends. He also enjoyed Friday night

poker games with family and friends, and watching the San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants.

Filbert is survived by his children: Walt Velasquez (Barbara), Nancy Fredrickso­n, Laurie Corral (Phil), and Tom Velasquez (Susan). He was the grandfathe­r of 14, great-grandfathe­r of 9 and great-great grandfathe­r of 2. He is also survived by his sister Rosella Schetgen.

He was proceeded in death by his wife of 66 years Josephine Velasquez, his parents John and Lucy Velasquez, son Filbert Velasquez Jr, daughter in-law Debby Velasquez, granddaugh­ter Taylor, grandson Anthony, brothers Tom, Leonard and Dale Velasquez, and sister Florence Ocano.

A private burial will be at the Fredricksb­urg Cemetery in Alpine County.

A celebratio­n of life for Filbert will be held at a later date.
