No. 24 Arkansas makes winning return to Top 25

Davonte Davis led four Arkansas players in double figures with 18 points, propelling the No. 24 Razorbacks over Florida 75-64 on Tuesday night at home.

Arkansas (17-5, 9-4 Southeaste­rn Conference) entered the Top 25 on Monday for the first time since 2018 and has won seven straight league games.

Florida (10-6, 6-5) turned a 15-point, second-half deficit into a lead with 4:40 left after Tyree Appleby’s lay-up. But the Gators went the final 4:40 without a field goal.

SANTA CLARA TAKES CARE OF BUSINESS ON ROAD >> Santa Clara topped Loyola Marymount 79-65 in Los Angeles, improving to 7-2 in road conference games. Merle Wiehl led the Broncos (13-8, 9-6 WCC) with 23 points, and Lindsey VanAllen added 17.

BRETT ANDERSON RETURNING TO BREWERS>> Starting pitcher Brett Anderson is returning to Milwaukee for a second season after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Brewers, multiple outlets reported.

Anderson, 22, went 4-4 with a 4.21 ERA in 10 starts with the Brewers last season.

PIRATES SIGN STARTING PITCHER TYLER ANDERSON >> The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached a one-year deal with starting pitcher Tyler Anderson to help bolster their rotation, multiple outlets reported.

Anderson pitched last season in San Francisco after four seasons in Colorado. He went 4-3 with a 4.37 ERA in 11 starts for the Giants.

DOLPHINS KICKER SANDERS SIGNS $22 MILLION DEAL >>

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has a new contract to go with his All-Pro status.

Sanders, the Dolphins’ leader in career field goal percentage, signed a $22 million extension through 2026. The deal announced Tuesday includes $10 million guaranteed. Sanders was chosen All-Pro after

tying the franchise’s single-season points record with 144 in 2020. His 36 field goals made ranked second in the NFL and second in Dolphins history, and his field goal rate of 92% was a team record.

PANTHERS CUT TWO-TIME PRO BOWLER SHORT >> The Carolina Panthers released two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short, the team announced. Short was set to count $20.8 million against this year’s salary cap, per Spotrac. He was heading into the final season of a five-year, $80 million contract he signed in 2017.

Short, 32, followed up a Pro Bowl season in 2018 by recording 10 tackles while playing in just five games over the past two seasons. Shoulder injuries prematurel­y ended each of his last two years.

GIRL HURT IN CRASH INVOLVING CHIEFS COACH BRITT REID AWAKE >> A 5-yearold girl left critically injured and in a coma following a crash this month involving Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid is now awake, her family said in an online post.

The news was delivered Monday in a brief post on the GoFundMe page for Ariel Young, who has been hospitaliz­ed since the Feb. 4 crash.

Reid, who is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, was the team’s outside linebacker­s coach. He was initially placed on administra­tive leave immediatel­y following the crash, but is now no longer employed by the team. His contract expired in recent days and was not renewed.

EARTHQUAKE­S SIGN FORMER SAC STATE PLAYER KIKANOVIC >>

The San Jose Earthquake­s have signed forward Benji Kikanovic to a one-year contract with club options through the 2024 season.

Kikanovic, 21, spent the 2020 season with the Quakes’ former USL Championsh­ip affiliate Reno 1868 FC, scoring two goals in 13 appearance­s.

Prior to joining Reno, Kikanovic competed for Sacramento State University for two seasons. He appeared in 34 of the team’s 35 matches from 2018 to 2019, making 33 starts and tallying nine goals and five assists.

Kikanovic, a former youth player at Placer United Soccer Club, also spent time with NPSL side Sacramento Gold FC in 2019.

STANFORD’S TANNER HONORED BY U.S. OLYMPIC COMMITTEE >>

Stanford women’s water polo John Tanner has been named the college coach of the year by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, the group announced Tuesday.

In its second year, the award aims to recognize and award the work of quality coaches and providers that are creating significan­t impact in their sport throughout the year.

Tanner, in the midst of his 24th season with the Cardinal, has guided Stanford to seven NCAA national championsh­ips. Stanford won the most recent NCAA championsh­ip in 2019, and Tanner was subsequent­ly inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame that same year.
