SANJOSE>> A man was shot and killed in the city’s Santee neighborhood late Sunday afternoon, marking San Jose’s third homicide in as many days, all of them separate shootings, according to police.

The latest deadly attack was reported at 5:53 p.m. on Carnelian Drive near Santee Drive, police said. As of Sunday night, police had only confirmed that a man had died, but area residents reported hearing gunshots and said they were told the victim was in a car parked on the street.

Additional information on the circumstances, motive or any suspects was not immediately released Sunday.

The shooting marked the city’s ninth homicide of the year and its third in three days. At this time last year, there were eight homicides in San Jose.

Saturday, at about 5:30 p.m., a man was shot and killed near Bowling Green Drive and Alvin Avenue, in line of sight of O.B. Whaley Elementary School. And early Friday, a man was shot and killed in his driveway on Glen Keats Court in the Hidden Glen neighborhood bounded by Tully and White roads.

None of the three men who died have been formally identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office. Suspects or motives in the Friday and Saturday shootings have also not been disclosed by police.

All nine homicides recorded in San Jose this year have been shootings. While the weekend’s killings occurred in or near East San Jose, police affirmed that there is no evidence suggesting they had any connections to each other.

Anyone with information about any of the homicides can contact the SJPD homicide division at 408277-5283 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-7867 or at svcrimestoppers.org.
