Wright St. receives lift from an Angel in upset

Angel Baker made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 29.1 seconds left and No. 3 Wright State stunned No. 4 Arkansas 66-62 Monday in Austin, Texas, in the biggest upset of the first round of the women’s NCAA Tournament.

Jada Roberson made two free throws with 8.1 seconds left to seal the win for the Horizon Tournament champs, playing in just their third NCAA Tournament.

Baker scored 26 points and the Raiders (19-7) are the first No. 13 seed to beat a No. 4 since 2012. Coming into the tournament, No. 13 seeds were 9-104 all time.

NORTHWESTE­RN 62, UCF 51>> Lindsey Pulliam scored 25 points to lead seventhsee­ded Northweste­rn (168) over 10th-seeded UCF (16-5) in San Antonio.

GEORGIA 67, DREXEL 53>> Jenna Staiti scored all 19 of her points in the second half, Que Morrison had 11 points, 12 rebounds and a careerhigh 8 assists, and No. 3 seed Georgia (21-6)overcame a slow start to beat No. 14 seed Drexel (14-9) in San Antonio.

BYU 69, RUTGERS 66>> Paisley Johnson Harding scored 28 points and 11th-seeded BYU (19-5) gave the women’s NCAA Tournament its first upset with a victory over sixth-seed Rutgers (145) in San Marcos, Texas.

TEXAS A&M 84, TROY 80>>

Jordan Nixon scored nine points in the final six minutes, and No. 2 seed Texas A&M (24-2) escaped an upset bid by No. 15 Troy (226) in Austin.

BELMONT 64, GONZAGA 59>>

Belmont freshman Destinee Wells scored 25 points and had seven assists in a turnover-free game as the younger and smaller, 12thseeded Bruins (21-5) held on for their first victory ever in the women’s NCAA Tournament, pulling off an upset over fifth-seeded Gonzaga (23-4) in San Marcos.

ARIZONA 79, STONY BROOK 44>> Aari McDonald scored 20 points, Trinity Baptiste added 18 and Cate Reese 16 as Arizona (17-5) rolled past Tournament newcomer 14-seeded Stony Brook (156) in San Antonio.

IOWA STATE 79, MICHIGAN STATE 75>> Ashley Joens scored a school NCAA Tournament record 33 points, including the clinching free throw with 3.1 seconds left, to lift the Cyclones (17-10) to a win over Michigan State (15-9) in San Antonio.

INDIANA 63, VCU 32>> Grace Berger scored 20 points and Ali Patberg 17 as No. 4 seed Indiana (19-5) held 13thseeded VCU (16-11) to 24.1% shooting in San Antonio.

ALABAMA 80, NORTH CAROLINA 71>> Jordan Lewis had a career-high 32 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists to help No. 7seed Alabama (17-9) beat No. 10 seed North Carolina (13-11) in San Antonio. MARYLAND 98, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 45>> Ashley Owusu scored 20 points with 8 rebounds and 7 assists and seventh-ranked Maryland (25-2) raced to a victory over Mount St. Mary’s (177) in San Antonio.
