Darvish, Myers power Padres past the Pirates

- By The Associated Press

Yu Darvish allowed three hits over seven dominant innings, Wil Myers drove in five runs, and the San Diego Padres extended their strong start with a 6-2 win against the Pirates on Monday night in Pittsburgh.

Darvish (1-0), acquired from the Cubs in December in hopes of helping San Diego chase down the World Series champion Dodgers, struck out six and walked one as the Padres won their fourth straight. The fourtime All-Star worked efficiently, throwing 63 of 95 pitches for strikes and permitting just one runner past second base.

Myers hit a two-run homer to the bushes beyond center field in the sixth off 21-year-old reliever Luis Oviedo (0-1) to put San Diego in front to stay. Myers added a two-run single in the seventh and is batting .370 (10 for 27) during his sevengame hitting streak. RAYS1,RANGERS0>> Tyler Glasnow struck out a career-high 14 in 7 2/3 innings and Willy Adames homered in the seventh to help Tampa Bay beat Texas in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Glasnow (1-0) allowed two hits and got his first win of the season after pitching well but not being involved in decisions in two previous starts. MARLINS 5, BRAVES 3 (10 INNINGS) >> Garrett Cooper had three RBIs and drove in the goahead run in the 10th inning off Jacob Webb, lifting visiting Miami over Atlanta.

The 10th began with placement runner Jon Berti advancing from second to third when Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies ran backward to try to catch Starling Marte’s shallow fly, but had the ball bounce off his glove for a single. Berti gave the Marlins their first lead when Cooper’s single landed in center field to make it 4-3. BREWERS6,CUBS3>> Pinch hitter Luis Urias’ bases-clearing double highlighted a six-run sixth inning as host Milwaukee beat Chicago.
