Suspect sought in hit-and-run crash on expressway

Authoritie­s were searching for the driver of a car involved in an injury hit-and-run

Monday night in Santa Clara.

At 9:15 p.m., an officer spotted a dark-colored sedan “driving at a high rate of speed” on southbound San Tomas Expressway, near Homestead Road, said Santa

Clara Assistant Police Chief Wahid Kazem.

Kazem said the officer continued driving on San Tomas Expressway and witnessed a collision involving the same car at the intersecti­on of Saratoga Avenue. The force of the impact pushed the second vehicle into a third vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to a hospital to be treated for unspecifie­d injuries, Kazem said.

No other injuries were reported.

The occupants of the sedan ran from the scene and had not been found as of Tuesday.
