Benn’s goal lifts Stars to OT win
Jamie Benn scored the overtime winner for the second straight game and assisted on Dallas’ three regulation goals as the Stars beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Monday night.
Benn scored on a pass from Jason Robertson at 2:44 of overtime. He scored 32 seconds into overtime Saturday to beat Detroit 2-1.
Joe Pavelski, Jason Dickinson and Denis Gurianov also scored for the host Stars, who have earned points in 10 of their last 11 games (8-1-2). Jake Oettinger made 29 saves. Max McCormick, Jaccob Slavin and Jani Hakanpaa scored for the Hurricanes, who clinched a playoff berth with the point. CANADIENS 2, FLAMES 1 >> Tyler Toffoli’s goal in the second period was the winner as Montreal won at Calgary. Toffoli scored his fourth goal in as many games and his team-leading 25th of the season. Shea Weber also scored for the visiting Canadiens. Jake Allen made 21 saves for the win. BLUES 4, AVALANCHE 1 >> David Perron had a goal and two assists as St. Louis beat Colorado. Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn, and Robert Thomas also scored, and Jordan Binnington made 30 saves as host St. Louis won its second straight game against the Avalanche.
SENATORS 2, CANUCKS 1 >> Drake Batherson scored a tiebreaking goal midway through the second period and Ottawa defeated visiting Vancouver. for the remainder of the regular season with an upper-body injury. Maurice said Ehlers suffered the injury in the Jets’ 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday.
NBC OUT, TURNER IN AS NHL BROADCAST PARTNER >> Turner Sports will join ESPN as the NHL’s new American broadcast partners, supplanting NBC and altering the television landscape for hockey in the U.S. for the next seven years.
According to TSN and the New York Post, Turner will sign on for the secondary TV package from 2021-22 through 2027-28 that gives the network broadcast rights to three Stanley Cup Finals. Last month, the NHL announced an agreement to make ESPN the new primary rights-holder, giving ESPN and ABC broadcast rights to four Stanley Cups.
NBC had been the NHL’s exclusive U.S. TV rights partner since 2005.
