Q

Since the world needs people to use less gasoline, have you considered offering something other than a free tank of gas for your contest?

This might also encourage electric car owners to participate. How about a gift card to an auto parts store so people can replace their windshield wipers or get oil? What about a Target gift card? Trader Joe’s gift card? I would go for that one! — Vivian Euzent, Sunnyvale

AHmmm. Good idea for the next contest.

QThat’s easy for me and increasing numbers of us across California and the nation: $0.00. Ditto motor oil, ditto spark plugs and plug wires, ditto antifreeze, ditto fuel pumps and air filters. Ditto mufflers, ditto replacing stolen catalytic converters, ditto starter, ditto turbo service. You can just announce my award now.

— Dan Swinehart A Yes, very impressive. When we had our Prius, our car maintenance bill dropped significantly.

Q

So, I’d guess a price in your gas contest, but since we’re 100% electric and have been for several months, I don’t think I’d come close and sure don’t know what I’d do with the prize. Good luck to all and trade in your gasguzzlers for an eCar!

More drivers are doing this. Remember that the plan is for only electric cars to be sold in California by 2035.

Q

I predict that my cost of gasoline on Memorial Day will be $0.00. I drive electric and am not concerned about gas prices. What a relief!

QRelief for electric vehicle owners may come in another way.

President Joe Biden wants to install 250 million chargers across the country as part of his infrastructure investments. You mentioned that a cat died when thrown from the back window ledge. Years ago in England I knew of a child who was killed by a book that flew off a window ledge, hitting the child in the head. I think higher headrests these days might help but it’s still a possible source of trauma.

My daughter was telling me that in England, they remind people not to leave anything heavy unsecured in the car. She says she always puts a net over groceries or anything of any weight because in an accident they become missiles and can kill someone.

It has been shown that texting while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk, so why are we permitting it? We need to make the penalties so high that those drivers are off the road or, like the Brits, they don’t text. — Kate Talbot, San Mateo

No argument here.
