SANTA CLARA >> Proving that the 49ers are dedicated to the community’s strong and healthy offseason, the NFL team is teaming with Santa Clara County to host three nights of COVID-19 vaccinations at Levi’s Stadium for teenagers to encourage them to get a shot.

The vaccinations will be open to students and teens between the ages of 16 and 19 and their families Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The free shots come with some perks and other fun experiences, including students getting to visit an NFL locker room, downloading free codes to play a 49ers video game and $10 gift cards to Starbucks and Chipotle for the first 100 teens to arrive each day. A DJ also will be on hand, as well as 49ers mascot Sourdough Sam.

Santa Clara County health officials are making an extra effort to get more students and young adults fully protected as the summer brings an upswing in social events, graduation parties and holiday gatherings.

The county estimates that more than 72% of eligible residents have received at least one shot, but teens and young adults between 16 and 29 years of age make up the biggest unvaccinated population in the county. The highest rate of new COVID-19 infections are now found among the 18 to 34-yearold age range.

“We have prioritized the lowest vaccinated census tracts for our mobile pop up clinics and door to door canvassing,” said Santa Clara County deputy county executive Dr. Rocio Luna. “Our mobile clinics have delivered more than 45,000 doses of vaccine at over 100 sites, and we’re also locating clinics at schools and offering incentives for youth to get vaccinated.”

The county has opened up vaccine eligibility for anyone 16 and older who lives, works, or goes to school in the county. Drop-in clinics are located at multiple sites in San Jose, as well as Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Gilroy. Vaccine availability at these sites varies with supply. The Santa Clara County vaccine website has more details on times, locations and appointments.
